We were delighted that Katrine Stewart came back from London to lead her third retreat for St George’s at the beginning of May.
The theme this year was "Surprised by Joy".
The 20 participants came from St George’s in Preussenallee and the Marienkirche and from St John's in Hyde Park, London.
We gathered in Blankensee on Friday evening, where we started by choosing a picture and a piece of scripture relating to joy, singing an ode to joy, and sharing stories of finding joy in unexpected places.
On the second day we were greeted by sunshine and took a "joy walk" in the beautiful surrounding landscape, stopping at benches along the way to read our scripture pieces and explain how we connected with them.
Our last step was to identify a tangible way in which we would take our learning back into our daily lives.
The most immediate of these was Andie's, who hosted one of the visitors and generously drove the guests from London into "her Berlin", explaining why she finds joy here.
Christopher talked Katrine and David Stewart into returning again so that we can look forward to more such community-building and soul-enriching retreats in the years to come.
